We firmly believe that no one should be excluded from full participation in society. Which is why we created our Fortis Foundations.
The key concept behind the Foundations is to contribute to local communities through a combination of philanthropy and volunteer work. Successful companies need a healthy society and vice versa.
Our focus on social outreach began in 1996, when we created our first Foundation in Belgium, followed by a second in the Netherlands in 2001. We’ve come a long way since then, with Foundations now also active in Luxembourg, France and Poland, and with others to come soon in the UK, Turkey and Ireland.
Although all the Fortis Foundations share their focus on global, concrete results, actual implementation is determined by the Foundation in each country. Funding and the selection of activities are decided locally, giving each Foundation its own distinctive flavour.
