In 2007, a consortium of banks made up of RBS, Banco Santander and Fortis took over the Dutch bank ABN AMRO. The takeover process had started up in April of that year. Here you will find information on various aspects of the acquisition: the steps involved, major milestones and the financing.

The consortium started drawing up plans in October 2007 for the transition and integration of the different parts of ABN AMRO. De Nederlandsche Bank has granted its approval for the transition. Approval for the integration will be given in stages. The latest news on these matters is available here.

Jean-Paul Votron, former CEO Fortis: “There is an ideal strategic match between Fortis’s activities, ABN AMRO’s international asset management and private banking activities, and it’s business unit for the Dutch market. Following integration, we are going to grow much faster together than we could have done alone.”
